Project Description

Market House, Castle Cary

Description of Work

RG Spiller was employed to carry out alteration works to The
Shambles at the Market House, Castle Cary. The Shambles is
a Listed building so extreme care and attention was required in
completing the works to a very high standard, procuring the
correct materials and ensuring sympathetic finishes in keeping
with the current building.
Works included the replacement of existing slate roof
coverings, the construction of new leaded flat roof areas,
incorporating newly installed roof lights and the renewal of
rainwater goods. Areas of new glazed roofing were also
installed.
Externally the fire escape stairways were removed and steel
framework support installed to form a balcony and alterations
were carried out to the external finishings with new window
installations.
Internally the stone flag flooring was lifted to enable
modification to existing floor levels and install insulation – the
flagstones were then relayed. Handrails, a platform lift and
new glazed screens were also installed.
Modification to plumbing fittings and electrical layouts were
undertaken with the installation of new statutory gas main and
boiler.
