Project Description

The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth

Description of Work

This project consists of the Design and Build of a new
café/restaurant seating 200 people, shop and visitors
centre. Works also include improved access across
the site establishing a single access point from Slade
House Farm, integration of a meet and greet facility
and to increase the size of the car park by 50 per
cent.
The entire restaurant building is constructed with a
curved Glulam roof structure with circular Glulam
columns.
Alterations to the existing barns provide an enlarged
visitors’ centre and shop, as well as upgrades to the
staff welfare facilities and improved donkey stabling.
The works and design of the new buildings have little
impact on the coastal preservation area being
designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The site attracts in the region of 300,000 visitors per
year and is home to 2,000 donkeys.
Currently ongoing.
